General Membership Meeting Minutes

May 18, 2004

Present: Sandy Czachor, Carol Morris, Helen Smits, Leona Waraksa, Barbara Bauer, Sharon McNulty, Katie Dykes, Jane Muhl, Terri.Vandenhouten, Pat Finder-Stone, John Mapes, Julie Zeeman, Pat Swinford, Donna VanRooy, Jan Wilkey, Joyce McCollum, Nancy Phythyon, Jane Delveaux.

Presentation: Due to unforeseen circumstances the program which was to feature Jay Hack, Executive Director for Common Cause could not be held.

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 1830 by newly elected President Carol Morris in the absence of out-going President Bonnie Groessl.

Minutes: The minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and approved by voice vote with the following corrections:

1. Correct the spelling of Julie Zeeman’s name..

2. Change Awards Committee under the Announcements to read Unity Night

Committee.

3. Change # 3 - #4 under the Announcements to read – Leona Waraksa presented the 2003 – 2004 NEWDNA Nurse of the Year Award to Katie Dykes along with the congratulations of the membership. Katie was recognized for her contributions as Geriatric Nurse Practitioner and for her participation in multiple community activities with a featured story in the Green Bay Press Gazette..

Treasurer’s Report: Printed reports of Checking, and Transaction Reports for 04/01/04 Through 04/30/04 were distributed and approved by voice vote.

Region #3: No report.

Committee Reports: Annual Reports received will be posted to the NEWDNA website. Printed copies will be available upon request.

FINANCE: Written 2004 Annual Treasurer’s Report for 06-01-03 Through 05-31-04

submitted by Carol Morris for Treasurer Brenda Tyczkowski.

PROGRAM: Written Annual Program Committee Report for 2003-2004 submitted by Carol Morris.

LEGISLATIVE: A brief verbal report was given by Pat Finder-Stone in the absence of Judy Friederichs, Chairperson. Pat indicated that the committee had met eight times and held two productive legislative breakfasts with meetings on Public Policy. A written report is pending. Pat again reminded the membership that the Legislative Committee could use more members.

WINPAC: No written or verbal report

PUBLICITY: No written or verbal report.

MEMBERSHIP: No written or verbal report

NOMINATIONS: Carol Felhofer, Chairperson. Ballots were presented to the membership at the April 20th meeting in which elections were held. Election results were announced and are recorded in the minutes of that meeting. No further report.

BYLAWS: Carol Morris, Chairperson. Written report submitted.

AWARDS: Laona Waraksa, Chairperson. Written report submitted.

NURSES DAY: Brief verbal report given by Jane Muhl who indicated that the event was very well done. The event was visited by Senator Rob Cowles but only 40 nurses attended. It was suggested that NEWDNA should review the problem of poor attendance and seek some solutions especially in light of the $ 500.00 that it costs.

OLD BUSINESS: Issues were dealt with during Committee Reports.

NEW BUSINESS:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. The WNA Peer Assistant Advisory Committee is available to provide assistance with treatment programs for impaired nurses with addiction problems. The group is willing to accept invitations to provide speakers and give presentations to students.
  2. WNA/WSNA 2004 Annual Convention is scheduled October 28 – 30, 2004 and will be held at the Lake Lawn Resort, Delavan, Wisconsin.
  3. The next Nurses Day at the Capital is being scheduled as a two day event with one day set aside for students and the other set aside for registered nurses. It appears that this will be held the first week in March 2005.
  4. Jane Muhl who is the Secretary for WINPAC and represents District # 9 indicated that due to the fact that this is an election year, the Board of Directors could use more help, especially coordinating interviews with candidates. The commitment for members of WINPAC involves attending one meeting per year which is held during the WNA Annual Convention; one meeting in Madison; and four conference calls. Pat Finder-Stone agreed to coordinate interviews with candidates and Carol Morris will ask Judy Friederichs to place a notice in the newsletter that WINPAC is seeking another district representative.
