NEWDNA has met at least monthly September through May. Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday of every month, for a social hour, dinner and either a general membership meeting or educational program. Our Board meets at least four times per year in accordance with our bylaws.

The annual Nurses Day celebration was held on Thursday, May 6th at the DePere Community Center, and was very well received. The event was free to all registered nurses and included massage therapy, aromatherapy, books, flower arranging, manicures, reflexology, door prizes and refreshments.

The educational programs of NEWDNA this year included topics such as cardiovascular risk reduction, genetics, and Alzheimer’s Disease. General membership meetings provided updates on NEWDNA, WNA and ANA issues.

Our NEWDNA contributions to the silent auction at the WNA Convention brought more than $200.00 for WINPAC this year.

Our very active Legislative Committee met monthly and arranged for two legislative breakfasts to provide a forum for our membership to meet with local politicians and discuss healthcare issues. Both breakfast were well attended. The Legislative Committee also kept the District well informed of issues throughout the year.

Each year, we select a District "Nurse of the Year". This year it was our pleasure to recognize Katie Dykes, MSN, APNP, who is a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner for Prevea Clinic. Katie is extremely involved in the community and volunteers much of her time to the underserved and Hispanic population. She is active in Parish Nursing and several other volunteer organizations. She is the Past President of NEWDNA, and an active member for our District.

Our District Bylaws were reviewed and revised this year and will be voted upon at the September 2004 general membership meeting.

Our goals continue to reflect those of WNA and are reviewed and updated annually.
