General Membership Meeting Minutes
September 16, 2003 at 1800.

Present: Bonnie Groessl, Carol Morris, Katie Dykes, Brenda Tyczkowski, Judy Friederichs, Sharon McNulty, Pam Page, Tracy Slater, Donna VanRooy, Flo Trondson, Sandy Oleniczak, Leona Waraksa, Barbara Bauer, Susan Hart, Jane Muhl, Deb Benishek, Tracy Slater, Helen Smits.
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 1800 by President Bonnie Groessl.
Introductions: Members introduced themselves.
Minutes: The minutes of the last meeting were approved. It was agreed that copies of the minutes will be available at future meetings.
Treasurer’s Report: Brenda Tyczkowski, Treasurer. A printed financial report covering 06-01-03 to 09-01-03 was distributed and accepted by the membership.
Brenda requested that prior notification be given to the Treasurer in advance if a check needs to be issued. Carol made this motion and Sharon seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Region #3 Report: No Report
Report From the President: The membership was reminded that they are eligible for WNA benefits such as Discount Travel and Insurance. The WONE/WNA will be holding a Summit meeting regarding staffing shortages. The Annual Presidents meeting will also be taking place at the WNA Convention.
The membership was given the opportunity by Bonnie to voice their opinions on how they would like to see future meetings conducted. It was concluded that the membership will abide by the recommendations of the Board to hold the business meetings during the time that dinner is served. The Board meetings will begin promptly at 5:15 PM and end promptly at 5:45 PM. The General Membership Meetings will immediately follow the Board Meetings and will begin as soon as possible after the members have entered the meeting room.
Committee Reports:
FINANCE: Brenda Tyczkowski,, Chairperson. Bonnie Groessl reported that an audit of the Books had just been completed by Brenda, Bonnie, and Katie Dykes.
PROGRAM: Carol Morris, Chairperson. This 2003-2004 schedule is now available to the membership on the NEWDNA WEB page. There is an update on the October 21, 2003 Dinner/ Program on Cardiovascular Risk Reduction sponsored by Pfizer at Stone Harbor, Sturgeon Bay. The featured speaker will be Dr. Earl Perrigo. Watch for any updates in the next Newsletter. So far, advance registrations number only 10. On January 20, 2004, Theresa Shuck will present a program on Genetics at the Eagles Nest. The March 16, 2004 event of special interest will be a Dinner with a Program on Alzheimer’s Disease. The presenter will be Dr. Tracy Hoffman. Sponsorship is by Janssen Pharmaceutica who will be represented by Mr. Tony Horge. The October and March events will require advance registrations. Unity Night will be an April event
Sharon asked for more representatives from the membership for this event. Sharon and Bonnie will coordinate a meeting with volunteers Donna Van Rooy and Tracy Slater.
LEGISLATIVE: Judy Friederichs, Chairperson. The first of two Legislative Breakfasts will be held at 7:30 AM on November 3, 2003 at the Midway Motor Lodge. The menu is still undecided. More details will be made available as plans are completed.
WINPAC: Sharon McNulty again encouraged attendance at the WNA Convention in Eau Claire. For this event, NEWDNA members are being asked to donate miscellaneous items, which have been purchased. These may be delivered to Sharon at the next meeting or may be dropped off at the front desk at the Bellin School of Nursing to the attention of Carol Morris. Items should be small enough to fit into baskets, such as paper products, which Sharon’s committee will assemble for this year’s Silent Auction. Corporate donations cannot be accepted. Cash donations may be sent to Brenda Tyczkowski. Proceeds from the Auction will go to WINPAC.

MEMBERSHIP: Pam Page, Chairperson. Pam will be contacting former members to remind them to renew their WNA memberships. Copies of the Membership List were given to those present.
PUBLICITY: No report.
NOMINATIONS: Jane Mull accepted the nomination by the Board for NEWDNA Board membership.
BYLAWS: No report
AWARDS: No report.
NURSES DAY: No report Members were asked to share ideas for the next Nurses Day. This committee could use more volunteer help for the event
COMMUNICATION: Judy Friederichs, Editor of PRN Newsletter. Brenda Tyczkowski, Webmaster. The target date for sending out the Newsletters will be two weeks prior to the next scheduled meeting. The Newsletters will be used to make announcements. Articles will need to be submitted by the 15th or 20th of each month with this in mind. Members are asked to contribute articles and to consider forming an editorial committee. Anyone interested in participating should contact Judy. This may be one way for inactive members, who have difficulty getting to meetings, to participate long distance. There have been problems with the software being used to connect to the Web site. This has caused some delay in the site development. Solutions to the problems are being studied. In the future the site should provide news items from the state, NEWDNA By-Laws etc.
OLD BUSINESS;
NEW BUSINESS:
Due to the vacancy on the NEWDNA Board of Directors the membership was invited to offer nominations for the position. Jane Muhl was presented as a nominee by the Board. There were no further nominations. The membership voted unanimously to appoint Jane to the position.
